Mentor a university student. Monthly catchups. Invest in your community
Becoming a mentor can be a very rewarding experience that can bring a range of benefits to your career and professional development. For many students trying to break in to their desired industry can be an overwhelming process. It can seem even more daunting if you don’t know any other black professionals that have successfully made it in. At IBR, we are trying to help students by finding them a mentor who has walked in their footsteps and overcame the challenges that they will face.
Becoming a mentor doesn’t require much of your time at all, all we ask is for you to commit to 30 minutes a month over a six-month period. In these sessions, you can help your mentee figure out their career interests and share what you do on a day to day basis. We also give you the option to choose to have one, two or even more mentees depending on your time.
